{"id":234,"date":"2020-05-03T11:50:52","date_gmt":"2020-05-03T15:50:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.smokinlicious.com\/blog\/?p=234"},"modified":"2021-08-09T13:06:43","modified_gmt":"2021-08-09T17:06:43","slug":"that-ember-glow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.smokinlicious.com\/blog\/that-ember-glow\/","title":{"rendered":"WOOD EMBER COOKING!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_4878\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4878\" class=\"wp-image-4878\" style=\"border: 7px solid #ff6820;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smokinlicious.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/HOT-COALS-1-e1540667162715.jpg\" alt=\"Our coals showing their hot glow and ready for direct wood ember cooking!\" width=\"400\" height=\"377\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smokinlicious.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/HOT-COALS-1-e1540667162715.jpg 243w, https:\/\/www.smokinlicious.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/HOT-COALS-1-e1540667162715-150x141.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4878\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Our coals showing their hot glow and ready for direct wood ember cooking!<\/p><\/div>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE GLOW OF WOOD EMBER COOKING!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">S<\/span>o what exactly is wood ember cooking and why is it suddenly gaining attention as a method of cooking?\u00a0 Well, first, it\u2019s most certainly not a <strong>new<\/strong> cooking concept.\u00a0 Cooking over a fire and hot coals have been around for thousands of years.\u00a0 Recently, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodandwine.com\/news\/cooking-techniques\/how-cook-embers\">some Chefs and well-known restaurants<\/a> have taken to returning to this method of cooking because they know where great flavor can come from and they know how to manage the heat from hot wood embers.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">A<\/span>n <strong>ember<\/strong> is a glowing, hot coal made of greatly heated wood, coal or other carbon-based material that remain after a fire.\u00a0 The heat radiated from hot embers can be as hot as the fire which created them. \u00a0You can see this first hand, by placing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinlicious.com\/products.html\">new wood pieces<\/a> on hot embers and watching a full fire develop. \u00a0An ember is usually formed when a fire has only partially burnt a piece of fuel and there is still usable chemical energy in that piece of fuel. \u00a0It continues to stay hot and does not lose its thermal energy quickly because <a href=\"https:\/\/physics.info\/radiation\/; https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Combustion\">combustion<\/a> is still happening at a <u>low<\/u> level. The small yellow, orange, and red lights are often seen among the embers are actually combustions. There just is not enough combustion happening at one time to create a flame.\u00a0 \u00a0Once the embers are completely &#8216;burned through&#8217;, they are not carbon as is commonly believed (carbon burns, and is not normally left behind), but rather various other oxidized minerals like calcium and phosphorus.
