The region that gave the hibachi its popularity is the Far East which has access to a type of charcoal called <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Binch%C5%8Dtan\">\u201cbichiton\u201d<\/a>.\u00a0 This is a very dense, heavy charcoal made from oak that is direct fired to a high carbonization level.\u00a0 This charcoal produces an <em>extremely<\/em> high heat; 3-4 times the heat level of an American charcoal!<\/p>\n<p>Can\u2019t locate \u201cbichiton\u201d charcoal or don\u2019t want the expense if you find it?\u00a0 Well, you can use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinlicious.com\/about-our-wood.html\"><strong>SmokinLious\u00ae<\/strong><\/a> products to get close to the results.\u00a0 Let\u2019s begin with charcoal &#8211; North America produces lump charcoal pieces that are too large for the small Hibachi. So take 2-3 pieces(depending on size), put them in a small paper bag (lunch bag size) and press with your hands to break them into smaller \u201cthumb\u201d size pieces (or you can use a meat mallet).\u00a0 Then pour into the firebox.\u00a0 \u00a0If the firebox is not full \u2013repeat until you fill it.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t have a small torch available, put some paper under the charcoal, then ignite.\u00a0 Or, you can place the original charcoal pieces in small paper bags, then break the pieces apart, and place the bag in the firebox for lighting.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-6156 size-thumbnail\" style=\"border: 3px solid #000000;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.smokinlicious.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/comic-12-panel-2-150x150.jpeg\" alt=\"SmokinLicious\u00ae wood chips are crushed from the center of hardwood\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smokinlicious.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/comic-12-panel-2-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/www.smokinlicious.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/comic-12-panel-2-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.smokinlicious.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/comic-12-panel-2-1024x1024.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.smokinlicious.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/comic-12-panel-2-768x768.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.smokinlicious.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/comic-12-panel-2.jpeg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">O<\/span>nce the charcoal burns down (gray in color), start adding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smokinlicious.com\/grande-sapore.html\"><strong>Grande Sapore\u00ae<\/strong><\/a> wood chips as this will provide for immediate heat and eventually, some flavoring to the food. \u00a0Once the charcoal\/chip combo\u2019s flames settle down, you can begin cooking!\u00a0 Remember, hibachis are traditionally used for thin meats so adjust your cook time to what you\u2019re cooking.<\/p>\n<p>What I like about hibachi cooking is the ease of adding more wood chips when more fuel is needed!<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">O<\/span>nce you master the fire set up, you will enjoy some wonderful food and some really fun cooking the Hibachi way.\u00a0 Think Korean BBQ!\u00a0 Yum!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Our Readers Are Asking..<\/h2>\n<h3>What can you cook on a hibachi grill?<\/h3>\n<p>The versatility of hibachi grills is highly recognized by seasoned chefs, as well as those just starting out in grilling.\u00a0 Hibachis are outstanding cooking instruments that can be used for main courses as well as side dishes.\u00a0 With charcoal as its primary fuel, cooking wood chips can be added to impart a smoky flavoring.
